Join us at the Next Generation Internet Forum, June 19-20 in Brussels. There is a great line-up with speakers from NGI Zero projects such as Mastodon, SCION and AboutCode. Michiel Leenaars, our director of strategy, will take part in the panel discussion 'Forging European Digital Sovereignty through an Open Internet Stack'. And there are more interesting panels on topics like Digital Commons tools for building Digital Sovereignty. We're looking forward to the NGI Forum and we hope to see you there. Since 2018 the Next Generation Internet initiative of the European Commission has been building on a free, resilient, open, decentralized and secure internet for all. Over the years, many people and organisations have contributed to this mission and many of them will be coming to the NGI Forum. Bringing together the builders of free and open source technologies and policy makers striving for a fair digital society.

Builders of the Next Generation Internet

This year's theme is 'Building an open internet stack for European digital sovereignity' and there's a solid program addressing different aspects. Multiple representatives of NGI projects which are providing the building blocks for the Next Generation Internet will be speaking like Renaud Chaput, CTO of Mastodon who will be partaking in the panel on web sovereignty. Niko Bonnieure of NextGraph, will join the panel on building an open and interoperable Web. Joining the Impact Stories session on Day 1 will be Karolin Varner from Rosenpass, Ali Gonzalez of Decidim, Martin Schanzenberger from TalDir, Ludovic Dubost of Xwiki and Renaud Chaput.

Managing Your Software Supply Chain with NGI

On Day 2 Philippe Ombredanne of AboutCode will host a workshop titled: Managing Your Software Supply Chain with NGI: Security, GenAi, and CRA compliance. He will be showcasing AboutCode and other NGI projects that contribute to software supply chain management. There will be room for questions and discussions.

Panel discussions and key notes

The program features some interesting panel discussions, starting with the theme 'Digital Commons tools for building Digital Sovereignty'. Denis Jaromil Roio (founder of Dyne.org), Pascal Steichen (chair of the European Cybersecurity Competence Centre), Marleen Stikker (founder of Waag Futurelab) will be talking about software supply chain security, alternatives to centralised platforms and identity management.
In the afternoon there'll be keynotes from the European Commission. The specific speakers aren't yet announced yet but they'll appear in the program soon.

Note on registration

The NGI Forum is organized by the NGI Outreach Office. The event is free of charge but you do need to register. Note that when you register you need to provide quite some information. The reason is that the event takes place in a building of the European Commission which has strict security measures for physical access. That's why you need to bring an official ID. If you provide the information upon registration, your badge will be ready when you arrive. If you opt not to provide it, you'll need to register your badge upon arrival which may lead to significant waiting times.
